The Idisi is a gathering of women intent on singing and opening the world up to the sonic healing of the Divine Feminine. We are a chorus of women raising the vibrations of those we encounter through music of many cultures, faith practices, and life paths. The Idisi come together with great love, respect, and honor among ourselves as artists and use the healing power of sonics to share that energy with as many people as we can.

Cycling

Cycling is a very attractive sport that can captured both our minds and bodies. The activity has helped me focus on problems as well as inspire me with new ideas. The first software I wrote was the Wheel Maker produced back in 1993, originally called Spoke Length Calculator, it has been enjoyed by thousands. While Bicycle Gear Calculator, completed later that year, continues to be a very popular product. Racer log has been the software dream I have been wanting to create ever since I started cycling back in the early 1980's and has been embraced by many others since it's release in 2001. Please enjoy, Gerry Kichok.

Travelling to Boulder, Colorado?
May 31 2011 - Gerry Kichok

Recently, I have had the opportunity to visit the wonderful city of Boulder, Colorado and I was immediately impressed by this cities commitment to active living and cyclists. The cities streets are full of dedicated bicycle lanes or bicycle/bus lanes almost to a fault. In some areas downtown there is more room and rights given for bicycle lanes than motor vehicle lanes and more surprising was the fact that drivers are cheerful and very courteous to the riders instead of the typical less pro-bicycle reaction of other cities with dedicated bicycle lane networks (see Vancouver's newly created dedicated bicycle lanes and the Critical Mass monthly rides to push for their creation... You Never Bike Alone). My only complaint about Boulder cyclists is the almost complete lack of helmet use; only the avid riders out on training rides wore any helmets while the riders on the city streets seemed to think that their brains were safe enough protected from falls and motor vehicles by their thick skulls alone; aren't there any helmet laws Boulder or Colorado?

At above 1,655 meters (5,430 ft) elevation, coming from Vancouver at sea level I was sucking wind on my first long ride. Altitude sickness can be a real problem but ride easy, take breaks, drink water, and don't be shy; talk to the many friendly riders you will meet and ask for advice or help. After a few days of riding around the city streets of Boulder I felt I was strong enough to finally head out Foothills Hwy to Lyons. This is about a 25km (16.5mi) ride or 50km (33mi) round trip on good roads with rolling hills of 5%-10% grade and about 200-300 meters (700-1000 ft) of climbing; a pretty easy training ride with plenty of places to turn around early if needed.

The scenic grasslands and wildlife make this route even more attractive but if you have ever ridden in the British Columbia interior, especially Kamloops, BC (Canada's grasslands and Boulder's twin with almost the same population and scenery) you will also know that the open roads amongst the mountains can provide some very challenging winds too. On my very first ride out the Foothills Hwy I did not notice I was being pushed along by strong winds so as I arrived in Lyons, I turned and started back hammered by strong headwinds and gusty crosswinds that combined with the altitude made the long ride back hellish, sometimes dangerous, and very painful. I spent that night and most of the next day trying to catch my breathe and fighting a terrible headache.

After another half dozen rides on the same roads over the next ten days under a variety of weather conditions I was able to finally ride the entire route as planned with only slightly more effort than I had planned though I was still sucking wind for a few hours afterwards. Considering that I had limited options I found that the casual and friendly staff at FULL CYCLE BIKES in downtown Boulder provided me with a good quality endurance road bicycle that was well maintained and professionally serviced with right gearing and tires to handle the city streets and country roads,

There was not a large selection, but I found a Road Giant Defy 1 at $110/week that fit me well enough and they threw in a helmet, lock, tube, and compressed air for tire re-inflation if I was unfortunate enough to flat.

History:

In 2006, Full Cycle expanded and opened 2 new stores; one in Fort Collins and another on 18th and Pearl in Boulder. The new locations maintain the historic charm of the original Hill location, but due to their larger size are able to offer road and mountain bikes, as well as family and comfort oriented bikes. With a non-pretentious, friendly atmosphere maintained by the employees, our goals are to serve our customers and inspire them to ride more. We are also actively involved in the community and strive to make cycling safe and accessible for everyone. Our line of new bikes includes major brands like Giant, Felt, Kona, Ibis, Merckx, Colnago, Spot and Maverick. Master Mechanic - Wheel Building Series from BICYCLING
January to April 1986 - By Eric Hjertberg
This is a four-article series about designing, building, and maintaining quality wheels. Written by Author Eric Hjertberg, the well-known wheel builder and co-founder of Wheelsmith, this article conveys the information needed when buying a machine-built wheel, or shopping for the parts necessary to build wheels by hand. It then explains how to lace the spokes into the hub and rim, and how to tension a wheel to perfection.

Events Calendar to list all and any cycling event from road and mountain bike races races with room for results! To regular community and club rides and special events. Coming in 2009
