Press Release
IMPORTANT! Please read this
notice for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4 users.
November 19, 1998 -- Crazy Rides
Included with the recent releases of Wheel Maker
and Bicycle Gear Calculator was an incorrect support
file mistakenly distributed with our software. Users that have Windows
95 or Windows NT 4.0, and have installed the
new Visual Basic 6 versions of this software may have noticed some
strange behavior with other applications. (Such as 'Unable to
register comcat.dll' or some other associated dll's.) Windows 98
uses this file without problems.
The affected file, comcat.dll is found inside the user's
Windows\system or WinNT\system32 directory. The file comcat.dll
version 5.00 from Windows 98 was distributed instead of comcat.dll
version 4.71 from Windows NT. For some reason Microsoft has
decided NOT to make this file backwards compatible
and there are no obvious problems with our software when used on these
systems.
The affected versions of our software are:
- Wheel Maker version
98.09.026 released October 3, 1998
- Wheel Maker version
98.11.001 released November 3, 1998
- Bicycle Gear
Calculator version 98.11.015 released November 17, 1998
Please download and install comcatfx.exe
to replace any suspected incorrect version on comcat.dll installed by
our software. This patch will automatically confirm which version of
Windows is installed, and check the version of comcat.dll before
replacing the file.
Please accept our apologies for any problems or frustration this
has caused, and hopefully correcting this problem will help. I
encourage everyone to take advantage of our user feedback below to
report any problems experienced with any of our software.
